Kansas City Royals Mascot, Sluggerrr, Named Parade Grand Marshal

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Whether you’ve been attending the Kansas City Easter Parade since it began or are ready to start a new family tradition, now is the time to mark your calendar for this spring’s signature event which will take place Saturday, March 26. The entire city is invited to join the festivities at Zona Rosa, which will feature the longest standing community tradition, the walking parade, led by Royals’ mascot and parade grand marshal, Sluggerrr, beginning at 11 a.m.

As always, participants are eligible to win $1,000 for dressing in their Sunday best and strutting their pastel-infused spring style. For the second year in a row, the Easter Parade will also feature the non-profit float contest.

"After the great success of last year’s new non-profit competition, we are eager to announce that we will be continuing the newfound tradition once again this year,” said Rosemary Salerno, general manager of Zona Rosa. “Just like last year, on behalf of our corporate philanthropic initiative Olshan Outreach, we will be awarding $5,000 in cash prizes to the non-profits that create the most spirited parade floats.”

So come on out and cheer on your local non-profits, because prizes will be judged based on crowd enthusiasm and applause. The float receiving the largest response will be awarded $3,000 and the two runner-ups will each take home $1,000.

Local celebrity judges will present the “Most Outstanding” awards immediately following the parade at Town Square, crowning a woman, gentleman, girl, boy, pet and family. The Kansas City Easter Parade family award is based on parade participants who are dressed in their Easter finery and/or have gone "above-and-beyond" to coordinate a theme or create an outstanding outfit. These newly crowned winners will receive Zona Rosa gift cards and prizes, including a $1,000 gift certificate to Zona Rosa for the Most Outstanding Family.

The annual Easter parade was a treasured tradition at the Country Club Plaza for almost 40 years and now lives on at Zona Rosa. The three-block walking parade will feature local politicians, marching bands and hundreds of local community members… all escorted by the Easter Bunny himself. Businesses, politicians, schools, organizations and others are invited to register a float or vehicle with Zona Rosa's Guest Services to add to the festive ambiance of the annual parade.

After the parade (and not to be missed), Kansas City’s own Mr. Stinky Feet will take the stage at Town Square, and families are invited to join in a variety of free activities, including a petting zoo with a variety of exotic animals, meeting the Easter Bunny, (bring your own camera and sit for Easter photos in front of a themed backdrop), ‘bunny sack’ races, an egg carrying contest and many more old-fashioned games.

Zona Rosa will feature a variety of specials and promotions the day of the Easter Parade, making it an ideal time to take advantage of all the shopping and dining options the town center has to offer. Don’t forget to join the Privilege Club and receive coupons to use that day and the rest of the year at Zona Rosa’s 100+ stores and restaurants. Also check out the Luxury Living at Zona Rosa Booth for look and lease specials the day of the parade.
