      EVENT DETAILS
Department for Children and Families Team Decision Making (TDM)

The Department for Children and Families is implementing Team Decision Making (TDM) as a child welfare Prevention and Protection Services model of practice. This new practice model approach in Kansas brings together parents, family, community members and others to assess the situation and determine how best to keep the child safe. The practice of engaging families and communities in the work of keeping children and families safe is an endeavor of many child welfare agencies. TDM takes it a step further, by involving families and communities in decision making regarding where a child can safely reside. A TDM meeting is a facilitated meeting involving parents/caregivers, children and youth, friends/others who support the family, agency staff, service providers, community partners, and others in all decisions involving a child being separated from their parents/caregivers. This framework provides opportunity for families to be involved in decision making by using a supportive forum for thoughtful decisions about their child’s safety and care, and specifically where a child can safely reside. Please see the attached TDM Infographics for detailed information about TDM. Go-Live is planned for November 4, 2019 in the following four counties: Cherokee, Crawford, Johnson and Wyandotte. The statewide implementation of TDM will be in phases, with additional counties to Go-Live in 2020. We would like to invite you to a Team Decision Making Orientation so we can share more details with you and discuss how we can partner together to make our work with families more successful through Team Decision Making.
