The Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) | Olathe, KS

1 in 5 children in America live at or below the poverty line. These numbers should disturb us, yet statistics can have a numbing affect. The Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) creates an opportunity to gain a glimpse into the lives of families in our communities who face poverty every day.  About the experience  COPE was co-designed with individuals and families living in low-income communities who bravely shared their stories. You will be assigned one of their identities and experience one month in the life of a family or individual living below the poverty line.  COPE also provides an opportunity to learn and engage with other people committed to understanding, serving and collaborating with low-income individuals and families in your community. Participants will be given ample time to process, discuss and dream together as they respond to what they learn about themselves and others during the experience.  About the event  This 3-hour experiential event accommodates up to 120 participants. Anyone who wants to learn more is welcome! Attendees and volunteers will represent the child welfare sector, international development sector, business community, and local faith community. This COPE event is brought to you by CarePortal and The Global Orphan Project.
